Thyssenkrupp SchulteThyssenkrupp Materials Services is building a €60m ($69.5m) logistics centre in the German town of Rotenburg, in Lower Saxony, for its subsidiary Thyssenkrupp Schulte, to store materials including aluminium and steel.

The company makes steel tubes and pipes, non-ferrous metals and specialty materials, as well as providing materials and supply chain management for a range of industries, including automotive. It signed the purchase agreement for the site on September 11.

The facility will have 50,000 sq.m of storage for up to 18,000 tonnes of aluminium, stainless and carbon steel products. Construction of the facility will begin next year and operations are planned to start in 2021. It will integrate operations currently carried out at warehouses in Hamburg and Bremen with the aim of more efficient supply of materials to customers.

“Our aim is to be close to our customers, offer them professional advice and provide them with tailored materials and supply chain solutions,” said Ilse Henne, CEO of Thyssenkrupp Schulte. “Located strategically between Bremen, Hanover and Hamburg, Rotenburg offers the ideal conditions for this.”

The company said that state-of-the-art processing equipment and digital integration would ensure flexible and coordinated logistics processes and services there.

“The new site is a further important element in our growth strategy,” said Joachim Limberg, CEO of Thyssenkrupp Materials Services. “The new logistics centre will underline our ambition to be the best possible partner to our customers. We guarantee the reliability and quick availability of our products so that our customers can concentrate on their core business.”
