location of activities

Mainly Spain, but acting as a transhipment hub for many countries in the Mediterannean. Also distributing import cars to southern Europe

Port of Barcelona is a public company firmly engaged in facilitating efficient logistics solutions for our customers. We work for the competitiveness of any company willing to use our facilities and the automotive sector is one of the main activity areas.

Extended facilities

• Two specialised car carrier terminals plus two short-sea shipping terminals handle more than 916,800 units per year (2016)

• Three new berths assigned to car carriers (1,670-metre final berthing line), avoiding any possible congestion

• 100 hectares under concession to car terminals (70 hectares covered, 35,000 units)

• 24 hectares of port surface reserved for car traffic, ready to be awarded as concession and already in use by current terminals on a steady basis

• Brand new rail terminals on the actual pier with European-gauge tracks – recently increased to 750 metres with three tracks

• Lengthening of Spanish gauge tracks in the southern area to free space for standard UIC traffic on the new terminal

• New road access to terminals and speeding up of truck operations

• Vertical covered parking areas

High connectivity in every way

• The only facility in Spain directly linked to the European rail network – from pier to anywhere

• An excellent platform to serve North Africa

• Wide choice of shipping lines already calling Barcelona

• Deep-sea services to/from Far East, Middle East and Americas

• Mid-range and short-sea shipping services available

Looking after our customers’ needs

• Special discounts on port dues for all car carriers

• Quality survey service from the port authority cooperating with terminals and shipping lines

• Direct rail services operating for most car factories in Spain and some European compounds

• Spain is the second biggest car builder in Europe
