At the conclusion of the Automotive Logistics and Supply Chain Digital Strategies North America 2025 conference, the focus remained firmly on the ongoing digital transformation within the supply chain industry. The second day underscored how artificial intelligence (AI), digital control towers, and secure data-sharing are increasingly integrated into logistics, driven by compliance pressures and the need for real-time visibility.
Speakers highlighted both the progress made and the challenges that remain. John Rich from Mazda encouraged a shift in mindset, suggesting the term “intelligent automation” (IA) over artificial intelligence, emphasizing actionable applications rather than abstract concepts. He stated, “Make sure you find an area of your supply chain where you can segment that data and apply some automation to it,” underlining the practical potential of automation using GenAI, machine learning, or data analytics.
Another key theme was cyber security and compliance. Eric Elliot from Nissan emphasized the growing cyber threats and the need for preemptive action, while Adam Schumake, also from Nissan, discussed the complexities of trade compliance and the importance of cross-functional engagement.
A standout case came from Volkswagen’s Scott Mabry, who described building a regional data hub to enhance inventory visibility across borders. His example illustrated how bundled data systems can optimize decision-making around shipping, delays, and tariffs.
The event closed with a strong message: “Look for the growth opportunities in these problems, work together, apply the right systems, and take a can-do attitude.” The journey toward digital maturity is ongoing, and collaboration and shared learning are essential for future success.
