Geely Auto and Jameel Motors sign distribution agreement for Italy

A new partnership seeks to capitalise on Italy’s growing electric vehicle market through a new dealership and distribution network.

Geely Automotive International Corporation (GAIC) and Jameel Motors have signed a distribution agreement that will bring Geely Auto’s new energy vehicles (NEVs) to Italy.

The agreement focuses on two of Geely Auto’s NEV models – a next-generation plug-in hybrid SUV and an all-electric Geely EX5. Jameel Motors Italia will launch the models in Italy in late 2025.

According to statistics from the European Alternative Fuels Observatory (EAFO), EVs and plug-in hybrids accounted for 11% of new car registrations in Italy in the first five months of 2025, a 132% increase year-on-year.

Jameel Motors Italia, aiming to build comprehensive business infrastructure in Italy, will lead local operations, including sales and aftermarket services. The plan includes building a nationwide dealership and service network of approximately 100 sites, designed to support long-term brand presence and customer satisfaction.

“The expansion into the Italian market is a pivotal stride in Geely Auto's global strategy,” commented Moe Wang, deputy general manager at GAIC. “Through this profound collaboration with Jameel Motors, Geely is steadfast in its mission to deliver green, intelligent and safe mobility solutions, thereby comprehensively elevating the consumer's travel experience.”

This agreement follows a similar move by Jameel Motors earlier this year, when it partnered with Chinese GAC International to distribute NEV and ICE vehicles to Poland.

In a tendering process, Jameel Motors secured the distribution rights for Geely in Italy over both local and international contenders. The company brings more than 80 years of automotive distribution experience and already operates across multiple continents, including Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Despite the import tariffs placed on Chinese EVs by the European Union, both partners pointed to the increasing demand for NEVs in the Italian market as cause for this increased investment.

Since 2023, Milan has been home to the Geely Innovation Design Centre, part of the company’s global design network. This hub plays a role in shaping Geely’s future vehicle concepts for international markets.

“Our collaboration with Geely Auto seamlessly integrates innovation, quality and a shared vision for sustainable mobility,” said Fady Jameel, vice chairman, international at Abdul Latif Jameel. “We eagerly anticipate setting a new benchmark for electric mobility for Italian customers.”
