Ahead of Automotive Logistics & Supply Chain Mexico 2025 in Mexico City, Victor Salazar, chief operation officer at Trayecto, speaks on which areas need the most investment in order to best support the future of automotive supply chains in Mexico.

Salazar highlights the need, from a transport perspective, to invest in improving infrastructure including roads, highways, bridges and customs facilities "in order to improve productivity and also in order to improve the safety and productivity of the people and also the cargo".

He also points of that it is important the industry takes advantage of improvements in technology and digitalisation to speed up processes such as permit negotiations.

Furthermore, he highlights that fleet modernisation is a necessary investment in Mexico. He acknowledges that this task is not an easy one, with the average age of a fleet vehicle in Mexico being around 20 years, but explains his view that a long-term strategy with the support of initiatives like scrappage schemes could ensure "a modern and more sustainable fleet" in Mexico that helps to reduce emissions throughout the supply chain.
