With around 200 responses from inbound logistics professionals at automotive OEMs, tier suppliers, logistics service providers (LSPs), and technology providers around the globe, the Automotive Inbound Logistics Survey 2026 reveals an industry in transition.

The sector is having to balance cost pressures, tariff uncertainty and geopolitical disruption against significant opportunities from artificial intelligence, digitalisation and supply chain optimisation. Respondents also highlighted the growing complexity of inbound logistics networks as supply chains become more regionalised and politically exposed. As a consequence, strategy has shifted towards emphasising resilience, visibility and agility.

This annual report from Automotive Logistics serves as a definitive playbook to navigate some of the biggest obstacles facing automotive inbound logistics today.

Top three survey findings

1 - Cost pressures and war remain the defining challenges: When asked to identify the greatest challenges facing automotive inbound logistics, survey respondents pointed towards two headwinds above all others: cost pressures and geopolitical uncertainty. Separately, these two challenges present a significant threat to the sector, but their interconnected nature – with wars and conflict feeding into cost pressures in transport and logistics – the threat compounds.

2 - Digitalisation and AI are transforming competitive advantage: Interestingly, a large proportion of respondents identified digitalisation as both a challenge and an opportunity. On the one hand, digitalisation is expected to deliver substantial benefits through improved planning, visibility and operating efficiency; on the other, the need to invest and modernise key systems, integrate data and adopt new technologies is placing pressure on budgets and management teams.

3 - Tariffs are reshaping global supply chains: More than a year on from the so-called “Liberation Day” that rapidly escalated trade tensions between the US and the rest of the world, tariffs and trade wars remain a key concern for automotive inbound logistics professionals. Although these considerations may have dropped slightly in terms of priority as geopolitical conflict brought new challenges, respondents in 2026 emphasised the real cost implications of tariffs and how they are impacting localisation strategies, forecasts and profits.

Why this research matters

This deep dive analysis equips stakeholders with the actionable intelligence they need to get ahead, implement operational and strategic planning, and compete effectively in one of the most turbulent inbound logistics landscapes in decades. As the second edition of what continues to be an annual industry benchmark, this annual survey tracks shifting priorities, giving leaders the visibility and foresight to mitigate risk, optimise operations, and make smarter, more data-driven decisions.
