After a packed day of insight and networking at the inaugural Automotive Logistics & Supply Chain ASEAN conference in Singapore, Christopher Ludwig, chief content officer at Automotive Logistics & Ultima Media, reflects on the energy and ambition driving South-East Asia’s fast-growing automotive supply chain sector.
Hosted in the logistics hub of Asia Pacific, the event brought together leaders from OEMs, suppliers, logistics providers and technology partners to explore strategies for strengthening, digitalising and localising the region’s automotive supply chains.
Ashwani Muppasani, COO of Stellantis India & Asia Pacific, opened the conference with a powerful message: the supply chain must be seen as a growth driver, not just a cost centre. He highlighted how Stellantis is investing in speed and agility to shorten delivery times, reduce inventory and improve responsiveness. The conversation continued with Dr Michael Nikolaides, senior vice-president of production network and logistics at BMW Group, who shared how BMW’s regional production network — with plants in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia — depends on strong inbound and outbound logistics links across ASEAN and beyond.
In a discussion on supplier collaboration, Praveen Durairajan Prakash, global component and supplier quality director of VinFast emphasised the importance of trust and transparency in growing local supplier networks. Digitalisation was another major theme, with Sanjeev M.A. from Ford Motor Company spotlighting Ford’s digital control tower in India, integrating data and logistics flows across Asia Pacific — a clear sign that ASEAN could become a hub for logistics digitalisation and AI innovation.
As Ludwig noted: “The ASEAN supply chain is full of opportunity – it’s about harnessing the region’s talent, building partnerships, and leveraging technology to add value and resilience.”
The event concluded with a networking reception hosted by DP World, where delegates continued discussions on partnerships and future collaboration.
ALSC ASEAN marks the start of Automotive Logistics’ growing focus on the region, supported by the launch of the ASEAN Automotive Logistics Market Report 2026-2036 and plans to host ALSC ASEAN 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
