ALSC Global 2024: Conference Day 1 wrap-up

After the first day of the Automotive Logistics & Supply Chain Global 2024 conference in Dearborn, Michigan, Automotive Logistics’ Chief Content Officer Christopher Ludwig welcomed our biggest crowd of delegates ever to our global networking dinner on the Detroit Princess riverboat, hosted by Ryder.

During the day, logistics experts from some of the biggest OEMs, logistics providers and suppliers took to the stage to discuss how to perform under pressure and manage complexity.

Delegates heard from the likes of Mercedes Figueroa, vice-president of Logistics at Stellantis North America, who highlighted digitalisation and partnership as key aspects for the company as it tries to drive down costs and increase efficiency, and BMW’s vice-president of Production Control, Logistics and Material Control, Dr Ulrich Wieland, who spoke about localisation, operational excellence and influence on engineering that form the principles of an excellent supply chain. Paulo Monteiro, head of Logistics, Volkswagen Group of America Chattanooga Operations also shared how his team are managing complexity, emphasising the importance of AI and digitalisation in the future, and the reality of needing partnership to achieve goals together.

“It’s really all still about people, in terms of their mindset, in terms of their skills and in terms of their willingness to be flexible and open,” said Ludwig. “We hope that today we gave a glimpse of some solutions and processes to show just how to do that, to become more flexible and resilient in the supply chain.”

Automotive Logistics & Supply Chain Global 2024 took place 24-26 September at the Henry Hotel, Dearborn.

The event will return to Michigan next year, from 23-25 September 2025.
