Amy Paulsen, director of finished vehicle logistics, brings a unique perspective to transforming logistics operations at GM. Speaking from the Red Sofa at Finished Vehicle Logistics North America 2025, Paulsen reflects on her journey from working in electric vehicle start-ups to leading logistics at GM – and how that entrepreneurial experience is driving change across the company’s global network.
While legacy systems exist at GM, Paulsen says she’s been impressed by the company’s appetite for change. “Once you understand the appetite for change, how do you then go about that change, because it’s a much larger organisation and you have more cross-functional partners that you have to align with to make change,” she said. “It’s a bit more of an involved process, but it’s been surprisingly nimble and GM has a lot of appetite for doing things better.”
GM’s EV product portfolio is growing, from new entry-level EVs to high-end models like the Cadillac Lyriq and the soon-to-come IQL, but this growth brings new logistical complexity. Paulsen details the importance of maintaining battery health, using telematics and partnering with third-party repair and portable charging providers to support vehicles through to delivery.
Paulsen outlines how GM is redesigning its vehicle logistics network to be more agile, with weekly reviews of routing, loading points and carrier strategies, supported by internal expertise and AI tools. She also shares how the company is navigating geopolitical uncertainty and trade disruption through transparency with partners and internal education across departments.
