Red Sofa | Nissan’s Gerardo de la Torre on using digital tools to improve supply chain visibility

At Automotive Logistics and Supply Chain Digital Strategies North America 2025 in Nashville, Gerardo de la Torre, regional senior director of supply chain management at Nissan Group of the Americas, sat down on the Red Sofa to discuss the benefits of digitalisation tools.

He outlines how the automaker is building end-to-end digital resilience in its supply chain, linking visibility, cybersecurity and compliance. He comments that “It’s always about technology – how we can become more efficient, more resilient, and more productive.”

This strategy not only mitigates risk but also unlocks efficiency and ensures regulatory readiness. A key tool in this process is their supplier visibility platform, which allows visibility across all levels: “This digital tool allows suppliers to capture the content of tier-one, tier-two, tier-three, Tier-N. This is fully included in our non-disclosure agreements and within our strategy for Nissan new product development, this is part of the official documentation in between suppliers and Nissan.”

He points to the system being useful in the face of mounting external pressures, such as the rare earth mineral shortage. “Together with our tier ones, we can understand who their tiers ones are, where they procure their rare earth materials from, and try to understand what our run-out dates might be and more.”
