DIRKS Group took over management of the site in Wilhemshaven at the beginning of the year. From this site, Volkswagen Group supplies a number of its overseas plants with around 3,000 different parts. The packaging centre also receives parts from overseas and delivers them to more than 20 VW plants across Europe.
On an annual basis, Volkswagen Group’s CKD packaging centre
in Wilhelmshaven handles around 5,500 containers.
“We are delighted that Volkswagen has entrusted us with the
operation of the packaging centre in Wilhelmshaven,’ Marcus Dirks, owner of the
DIRKS Group, said in a translated statement. “This contract enables DIRKS to
offer an optimal solution for the customer by combining automotive expertise
and logistics capabilities.”
Head of DIRKS Automotive Jan Wegmann added: “We hope to
continue growing through future volume shifts and additional scope at the
Wilhelmshaven site.”
Volkswagen Group opened its packaging centre in
Wilhelmshaven in 2019, with Imperial Logistics initially managing operations at
the site.
Since 2019, Volkswagen Group has closed packaging centres in Salzgitter, Wunstorf and Bremerhaven. It also now just operates one packaging centre in Wolfsburg, when previously it had two – one managed in-house and one managed by a logistics provider.
