After a packed Day 1 at the 16th annual Finished Vehicle Logistics North America conference in Huntington Beach, CA, Christopher Ludwig, chief content officer at Automotive Logistics & Ultima Media, reflected on a day full of insight, innovation and collaboration.

Discussions throughout the day highlighted the scale of change impacting finished vehicle logistics, from tariffs and fuel volatility to capacity shifts across ocean, rail and road transport. Speakers emphasised the intense pressure on cost, but also warned against short-term decisions that could undermine long-term network performance and resilience.

A consistent theme across sessions was the need for stronger collaboration. OEMs and logistics providers stressed the importance of deeper partnerships, improved data-sharing and more integrated decision-making to navigate uncertainty and maintain service levels.

Technology also featured heavily, with examples of how AI, real-time visibility and more agile sourcing models are enabling faster, more responsive logistics networks. At the same time, speakers highlighted the importance of preparing for recovery – ensuring capacity, partnerships, and infrastructure are ready to scale when demand rebounds.

Despite the challenges, the outlook remains cautiously optimistic. With demand holding steady and innovation accelerating, the industry is focused not just on managing disruption, but on building more resilient, adaptive supply chains for the future.

The day concluded with a lively Networking Dinner, where delegates came together to reflect on key insights, strengthen connections, and continue conversations shaping the future of finished vehicle logistics in North America.

“This is not a time when the industry can slow down – we need to find ways to move faster, together,” Ludwig said.
