BMW has learned how to better steer its network through volatile times through combining business divisions to make cross-functional programming decisions in its supply chain.

At Automotive Logistics & Supply Chain Europe in Bonn, Germany, Dr. Michael Nikolaides, senior vice-president of Production Network, Supply Chain Management & Logistics at BMW Group joined Christopher Ludwig, Chief Content Officer, Automotive Logistics for an insightful Red Sofa Interview on the benefits of cross-functional decisions in logistics.
Nikolaides said that through combining functions of the business, the OEM learned how to better steer its network in volatile times.
“First, you need to think about where and how resilient you want to set up your supply chain production system resilience,” he said. “The second factor is digitalisation and the availability of data. You need real-time data to make decisions. And the third thing is you need to have the right people to make decisions.”
