At ALSC Global 2024, Richard Logan, Senior Content Producer, Automotive Logistics sat down on the Red Sofa to speak to Todd Myers, director of Finished Vehicle Logistics at Nissan Group of North America.

Myers emphasised the importance of strategic adaptions and collaborative efforts to mitigate the significant disruptions and uncertainties facing the automotive industry. Reflecting on the past 18 months, Myers highlighted the need for a critical reassessment of performance metrics.
He pointed out that many initial KPIs, which appeared satisfactory on the surface, masked underlying issues—a phenomenon he referred to as “watermelon KPIs”, which seem “green” on the outside, but are “red” with underlying risks. This realisation prompted his team to realign their focus on metrics that genuinely reflect operational health, fostering more informed decision-making.
A cornerstone of Myers’ strategy has been enhancing communication with partners. He stressed the significance of two-way dialogue, aiming to understand partners’ challenges and collaboratively seek solutions. This proactive approach has not only improved transparency but has also facilitated more effective problem-solving.
