kontraktlogistik_schnellecke_1Schnellecke Logistics has won a contract with the motorcycle division of BMW (BMW Motorrad) to manage inbound and aftermarket packaging activity at the OEM’s supply centre in Berlin, Germany.

Schnellecke said it was taking over responsibility for areas including handling incoming goods, storage of parts bins and empties management. The scope of services also includes picking of parts and modules from the assembly and paint shop departments in specific sequencing racks, which are delivered just-in-time to the assembly line.

Schnellecke will also package motorcycle parts for delivery to BMW’s service centres overseas.

Last year, BMW announced it was investing more than €100m ($111m) in the expansion of production volume at its Berlin motorcycle plant, as well as supporting activity at its logistics centre there. Once upgrades are complete in 2017, the logistics facility will be able to process more than 1m inbound parts a year.

“We will almost double our production volumes in the medium term and continue to increase utilisation of our plant in Berlin,” said Stephan Schaller, head of BMW Motorrad.
