Gefco’s division in Brazil is opening a new office and depot in Minas Gerais state to handle parts movements and at the same time the company has announced new contracts with Volkswagen Group in Spain.

Gefco Brazil’s new site is located in Contagem in the southeast of Brazil. The office will issue tax documents for automotive parts and will manage spare parts deliveries to Peugeot-Citroën’s dealers in the country and to the carmaker’s plants in Argentina, operations that were previously managed by the company’s Porto Real branch. Around 320 delivery vehicles a month will be dispatched from the depot.

In Brazil parts are transported, mainly by road, to Gefco’s distribution centre in Barueri, in the state of Sao Paulo for onward distribution to the dealers.

“The opening of this new depot is a strategic move for Gefco, which offers the group important business development opportunities and also the possibility to expand its portfolio of customers,” said Wagner Carvalho, manager of the Contagem depot. The company is looking at business with Fiat and its commercial division Iveco amongst others, a spokesperson told Automotive Logistics News.

Carvalho said the next stage for Gefco was set up a dedicated platform to be able to provide partners with a comprehensive solution.

“We first need to have a customer that needs a warehouse structure for cargo handling,” added the spokesperson. “This region is an important automotive centre, which is directly linked to Gefco Brazil project of becoming a major automotive logistics operator in the country.”

Contract with VW Group in Spain
The company has also recently signed a three-year contract with Volkswagen for the movement of VW, Audi and Skoda vehicles in the east of Spain. It is the first time Gefco has been contracted to delivery VW Group vehicles in Spain.

Gefco is set to deliver 31,000 vehicles annually by road from the Volkswagen warehouse situated in Barcelona to the manufacturer’s network of dealerships in Catalonia, Valencia, Murcia and Albacete.

“Working with a leading company in the automotive sector such as Volkswagen Audi Spain is an important recognition of our expertise and our efficiency,” said Thierry Schemith, Finished Vehicle Logistics director at Gefco Spain.
