China Anhui Jianghuai Automobile (JAC) has reported exports of 57,000 vehicles to Brazil since it started moving units there two years ago, making it the number one Chinese brand in the country.

The company began exports in March 2011 with the J3 and J3 Turin models and hit 37,800 models by the end of that year. In 2012 JAC added the J5 and J6 models and said it exported 10,000, despite the impact of Brazil’s industrialised product tax (IPI).

The tax imposed a 30% tax increase on vehicle imports to the country and on vehicles built from imported parts and is designed to regulate Brazil's incentive programme for technical innovation and production expansion.

JAC added the J2 at the end of 2012 when it also announced the start of construction on a local assembly plant to take advantage of the IPI cut for locally produced vehicles. By June this year it had imported 10,000 units of that model.

At the end of June the carmaker’s sales volume reached 51,000 units, of which 38,000 units were made up of J3 and J3 Turin, 6,000 units J6, 2,800 units J5 and 3,700 units J2.

According to JAC it ranks second in Brazil for exported brands.

JAC has more than 70 sales and service outlets in Brazil.
