DB Cargo has announced the appointment of Roland Bosch (pictured) to the role of CEO from December 1st. The move follows the resignation from the Deutsche Bahn division of former CEO Jürgen Wilder in October.

Bosch moves into the new position from his role as head of production at DB Netz, the railway infrastructure subsidiary that owns and operates the majority of the German rail network. He joined DB Netz in 2010 as chief financial officer (CFO) from what was then DaimlerChrysler, where he was CFO for northeast Asia.

As CEO of DB Cargo, he will be responsible for 30,000 employees in 16 European countries.

"Roland Bosch is an outstanding colleague and an experienced rail manager, and I am very pleased to have him as the new CEO of DB Cargo," said Berthold Huber, the board member for passenger transport, freight transport and logistics at Deutsche Bahn. "With his international background and deep knowledge of the interfaces and interdependencies between infrastructure and rail operations, he is the ideal choice. His knowledge offers an outstanding basis for making lasting improvements to quality and reliability at DB Cargo, and he will also be focusing in particular on establishing a healthy economic foundation for the company."

DB Cargo was formed last year when Deutsche Bahn separated its rail and logistics activities and dispensed with DB Schenker Rail. All rail freight services are now under the DB Cargo division, while DB Schenker handles global logistics.
