DB Schenker Rail (UK) is appointing Geoff Spencer as its new CEO from the start of September this year. Spencer returns to the UK after three years as head of European Resource Management in the European DB Schenker Rail organisation, based in Mainz, Germany.

“I am delighted to welcome Geoff Spencer back to the UK, and I believe that the vast experience he has gained throughout his railway career, both operational and managerial, will allow him to lead DB Schenker Rail UK to achieving its financial and operational targets,” said chairman Alain Thauvette, who retains overall responsibility for the UK.

Spencer started his career as a traction trainee and then train driver for British Rail before moving into the management side of the business, where he has held a number of senior management positions within English, Welsh and Scottish Railways and subsequently at DB Schenker Rail UK.

In other news, Simon Bruce has joined DB Schenker’s division in the UK – Schenker Limited – as contract logistics director. He moves over from a 12-year tenure with Kuehne + Nagel, where he was also director of contract logistics.

“Having Simon join our UK board will further strengthen our organisation,” said Helgi Ingolfsson, CEO of Schenker Limited. “I am confident that his wealth of experience and skills will help us grow our contract logistics division to achieve the ambitious objectives we set ourselves in relation to our strategy here in the UK.”
