Port of Vigo, SpainWallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) has added the Spanish port of Vigo to its Atlantic Ocean service, which supports the movement of finished vehicles, breakbulk and rolling stock between Europe and South America via the US and Mexico.

The Norwegian-based global ocean services provider will call at Vigo on a monthly basis, beginning at the end of January.

WWL already calls at the port of Santander in Spain as part of the service. After visiting other European ports (Bremerhaven, Zeebrugge and Southampton), the Atlantic Ocean service moves from Spain onto the US ports of Baltimore and Galveston, before heading to Veracruz in Mexico. The next port of call is Manzanillo in Panama, which WWL uses as a hub, providing access to the Caribbean and the west coast of the US. It then moves to the Colombian ports of Cartagena and Santa Marta.

The company said details on volumes and brands in and out of Vigo remained confidential.

Vigo has six ro-ro ramps in operation and is building a seventh. The development is in support of increased demand since Vigo’s Sea Motorway service began and also because PSA Group announced that its local manufacturing plant would assemble the new K-9 van model in the first quarter of 2018.

Other ro-ro lines operating through the port of Vigo for international services include Glovis, K Line, Neptune, NYK and UECC.
