Ceva Logistics will start using two automated straddle conveyors to move vehicles at its logistics facility in Nanteuil-le-Haudouin in France from September this year. It follows a trial deployment in May of last year at Ceva’s facility in Loyette, also in France.
The conveyor robots, supplied by Stradot, will move vehicles across 2,000 dedicated slots at the site (which has a total of 8,000). The machines are able to lift vehicles to be moved and straddle other parked vehicles along the route, maximising storage and movement capacity on the vehicle lot by reducing the area needed for manoeuvres and removing the need for circulation lanes.
The conveyors will pick vehicles up from the reception area of the vehicle distribution yard and park them in the designated spaces. Ceva said the machines will also position finished vehicles on shipping lanes for loading onto car carriers. In total the robots will perform several thousand vehicles movements per month.
“We are delighted to establish this partnership with Stradot, which demonstrates our ongoing commitment to deploying innovative solutions and adopting cutting-edge technologies. The use of Stradot robots supports our mission to improve efficiency across our finished vehicle logistics operations.”
Stradot was founded in 2019 in Toulouse (France) and in Salta (Argentina). The robotics company specialises in the storage and movement of vehicles in very dense environments, including vehicle yards, airport parking and car rentals.
José Iriarte, CEO and co-founder of Stradot, said: “Our partnership with Ceva Logistics is a fantastic opportunity to showcase how robotics are revolutionising logistics. We are excited to embark on this multi-year collaboration and are confident that the project will create value and optimise land use, enabling Ceva to strengthen its services and ability to support customers.”
