Linpac Allibert has won a significant new contract for its new generation of Tytan returnable folding large containers (FLCs) with the Fiat Group.

It is the first-ever group-wide packaging project that Fiat has undertaken, says Linpac, and adds that the OEM is using the containers across the full range of its businesses, including Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Lancia, as well as commercial vehicle makers Iveco and Case New Holland.

The deal also extends to the Italian group’s powertrain division, says Linpac.

The containers are capable of carrying up to 500kg each with an internal capacity of 800 litres. They are nearly 20kg lighter than the standard FLCs being used in the market, however. This, and the fact that they can be stacked eight high in delivery vehicles when folded – versus the industry standard of seven – could mean less CO2 emissions per delivery, according to Linpac’s Commercial Director, Rodney Salmon.
