Gefco has expanded its vehicle carrying fleet in the UK with nine transporters built to a new specification that will allow the logistics provider to carry multiple combinations of vehicles and up to 11 passenger cars at a time. The company said the transporters, provided by Lohr, will enable it to optimise load-carrying capacity while providing a range of environmental and safety benefits.

The EHR 3.00 W UK has never previously been available for UK vehicle transport. Its range of load combinations includes carrying up to 11 cars, or seven medium vans. Alternatively it can also carry three large vans and four cars on the same load.

The new models are part of a larger fleet renewal programme that has seen Gefco purchase a total of 17 new transporters from Lohr in the last few months. The trailers are produced at Lohr’s production facility in Strasbourg, France.

Gefco handles the delivery of passenger vehicles and vans for PSA Peugeot-Citroën.

“The versatile design ensures each vehicle can maximise its capacity, resulting in fewer journeys on the road,” said the company in a statement.

The new vehicle transporters will be deployed at Gefco’s distribution centres at Corby and Sandtoft.

“The fact that we are the first UK carrier to introduce this model highlights the importance Gefco places on delivering an effective and flexible service to our customers,” said Gefco UK’s automotive director, Bertrand De Techtermann. “These transporters will provide good operational flexibility, reduce damage risk and lead to greater environmental efficiencies.”

Gefco already uses Lohr’s Eurolohr 3.53 UK Hybrid trailers, which allow mixed loads for up to ten vehicles rather than the usual eight.

Gefco recently unveiled a new look for its vehicle fleet with redesigned livery that includes a new lighter shade of blue and a frieze along with the Gefco logo. The redesign includes a signature that reads ‘Logistics for manufacturers’, something the company said highlights “the international expansion of the Gefco brand”.
