HyundaiCarmaker Hyundai has announced the launch in January of a website in the UK allowing customers to purchase its vehicles and arrange finance online.

While the company has provided smaller scale digital store options in the past, such as the one operated with Rockar and another in Madrid, this is the first manufacturer-based sales system it has provided.

“For those buying with cash, it is possible to buy a new Hyundai in less than five minutes – and even have it delivered direct to their door at a cost, with collection of a trade-in at the same time, without even visiting a dealer,” said the company.

Customers will need to visit their local dealership to sign legal paperwork if obtaining finance, but will still have the choice of collecting the vehicle or getting it delivered to their homes.

Initially the i10, i20, i30, Tucson and Santa Fe will be available to purchase online.

Last month, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) announced that three of its Fiat vehicle models in Italy would be available on online retail site, Amazon.

A spokesperson for Hyundai told Automotive Logistics: “Servicing and customer support will continue to be managed through the customer’s local dealership. Fixed-cost service packages can be purchased online at the time of transaction.”

Earlier this year, Rockar teamed up with Jaguar Land Rover to announce the launch of a new digital retail website and accompanying store in the Westfield Stratford shopping centre in London.
