Penske Logistics has received a Gold Award for Logistics Services to Ford in the company’s World Excellence Awards for 2010, held last week in Dearborn, Michigan.

This is the third World Excellence Award Penske Logistics has earned from Ford and it is its second Gold within three years

“We're sincerely honoured to receive this award but it would not have been possible without the close collaboration between the Ford and Penske teams,” said Marc Althen, Penske Logistics president.

Penske Logistics provides a range of supply chain services to Ford including serving as its North American lead logistics provider for its assembly, power train and stamping operations.

In South America, Penske also supports Ford by operating parts distribution centres and delivering parts to Ford dealerships in Brazil. Today the company announced that Paulo Sarti was taking immediate control as managing director of operations there, replacing Bill Scroggie who has returned to the US to serve as Penske's senior vice president of operations for the Central Region.

Penske also provides sub-assembly and material handling services for Ford product lines in the UK and manages expedited transport services for service parts across Europe. The carmaker lists Penske as a strategic supplier and is a part of its Aligned Business Framework.

There were also logistics Silver Awards at last week’s event for Michigan-based Pak Rite Industries for service parts packaging and for Kentucky-based Pegasus Transportation for truckload transport services.

“We made tremendous progress on the One Ford plan in 2010 and the partnership with our suppliers was absolutely critical in making that happen,” said Alan Mulally, Ford president and CEO. “Thanks to all of our World Excellence Award winners for the work you are doing to contribute to our mutual success and serve our global customers with the very best cars and trucks.”

There are three levels of World Excellence Awards – Gold, Silver and Recognition of Achievement. Gold and Silver awards are presented to suppliers demonstrating superior quality, delivery and cost performance. Fifteen Gold and 26 Silver awards were presented this year to production and non-production suppliers from around the globe.
