Mazda Canada has opened its new Western Regional Operations and Parts Distribution Centre (PDC) at Langley in British Columbia. The 12,000-square-metre facility represents the final part of Mazda’s $20m Parts Distribution Centre Network expansion project, which was announced in 2010. The network comprises of seven PDCs in North America, two in Canada and five in the US.

The centre supplies Mazda automotive parts to 37 Canadian Mazda dealers in four provinces in Western Canada. It also handles referral orders to additional dealers in Eastern Canada and the US. In addition the centre provides a dealer training centre for service technicians and is the new home of Mazda Canada's Western Regional office.

The facility distributes 3,700 parts per day, or 1,000 part lines with an average of 3.7 pieces per line, in four trailers outbound per day. It has a storage capacity for parts worth a total $12.5m. On the inbound side it receives 4-6 ocean containers and one to two 53 foot trailers each week.

Kory Koreeda, president of Mazda Canada, said the new PDC would effectively double the company’s parts distribution reach in Canada. “This enables us to fulfill dealer and customer orders quickly and more efficiently, as well as provide a regional supply of parts and training opportunities," he said. "This distribution centre will enhance customer service and satisfaction levels throughout Western Canada, as well as reduce our carbon footprint through more efficient delivery planning and tracking, all of which are important Mazda commitments.”

Mazda’s logistics provider within the PDC is Neovia, which was formerly Caterpillar Logistics Services but has recently changed its name under the management of its new owner Platinum Equity. The Cat Logistics division was sold to the private equity firm at the beginning of this month (read more here).

On the outbound side Day & Ross are handling dedicated deliveries to the dealerships and UPS are handling VOR orders.

Mazda Canada sold 6,671 vehicles in July 2012, an increase of 1% over July 2011. Total sales for the year are 44,278, leading 2011 sales by 7% year-to-date.
