Volkswagen Logistics has extended its contract with NYK Logistics for inbound delivery of components to the Bentley Motors’ manufacturing facility in Crewe, UK.

NYK Logistics is responsible for the delivery of around 6,000 different parts into the plant from 150 UK-based suppliers and a further 460 throughout Europe. Bentley parts are cross-docked at NYK hubs in Germany and the UK before onward delivery direct toe the plant by a dedicated fleet of shuttles.

The inbound activity will support assembly of the full Bentley range of products including the Arnage, Azure, Brooklands, Continental Flying Spur, Continental GT and Continental GTC.

NYK operates what it calls a ‘collect to manifest’ system which the company claims gives Bentley full control over inventory and vendors.

This is supported by an integrated reverse logistics planning strategy and NYK is responsible for the outbound movement and management of returnable packaging to Europe.

“Our success was achieved against strong competition from other providers and reflects the hard work and commitment shown by both the Bentley and NYK teams in working together to make this happen,” said Paul Demet, Deputy Chief Executive for NYK Logistics (UK). “We look toward a long-term and successful future with Bentley.”
