Toyota Logistics Services, the North American logistics division of Toyota, has revealed the winners of its US logistics partners Excellence Awards for performance in 2011, with strong showing from ocean forwarder K Line America and rail provider Union Pacific Railroad. The Special Service Award went to road transport provider Reliable Carriers.

The Excellence Awards are separated into four categories, with various modes of transportation eligible for each, including outstanding achievement, on-time performance and quality, customer service and service.

In the Import Marine category, K Line America took the President's Award, the award for Outstanding Achievement and the Customer Service award. "K Line is very honoured to have been recognised by Toyota with these recent logistics awards," said Ray Leonard, the company's vice president of the Pacific Region in the Car Carrier Division. "They are especially significant coming from a company such as Toyota, whose name is synonymous with quality."

Union Pacific also took three awards, this time in the Rail category, including President's Award, On-Time Performance award and award for Customer Service.

Customer service scores rate communication, equipment supply, responsiveness, collaboration, business controls and overall ease of doing business. On-time performance involves online and through-route performance, as well as improved year-over-year transit time.

"Union Pacific has been recognised by Toyota with logistics excellence awards in key category components for many years," said Linda Brandl, Union Pacific vice president and general manager - Automotive. "We are honoured to receive the 2011 President's Award and remain committed to supporting Toyota with innovative transportation solutions and excellent service."

Union Pacific transported more than half a million Toyota vehicles in 2011 according to the company.

"We are pleased to recognise our business partners who provided extraordinary service over the past year despite the many challenges we faced," said Brian Mason, national manager of strategic planning and communications for Toyota Logistics Services. "Each recipient is an integral part of our core business and continues to be key a contributor to our success."
