Gebrüder Weiss RomaniaGerman logistics provider Gebrüder Weiss has enlarged its base in Sibiu, Romania, to include a logistics terminal with cross-docking hub.

“The extension will enable us to meet increasing customer requirements and handle the growing volume of orders,” said general manager Viorel Leca.

Last year 605,442 consignments weighing a total of 1.2m tonnes were handled, an increase of 11% on 2016. The vehicle contribution was 57,000 consignments with a total weight of 125,800 tonnes.

Gebrüder Weiss Romania has grown from a team of four into a full-service logistics provider with 600 employees at 11 locations, including Arad and Cluj, where the automotive sector is an important part of its business. That growth is supported by Romania opening up to Central Europe, said Thomas Moser, Gebrüder Weiss’ regional manager. Land transport to Germany, Austria, France, Bulgaria, and Hungary account for a major part of the company’s business.

Developments in the automotive supply chain in central and eastern Europe will be under discussion at the inaugural Automotive Logistics Central & Eastern Europe summit being held in Hungary in November
